fix up, look sharp

...so how are we all doing? happy 2012 chums!

i headed over to edinburgh for the first wedding of the year this weekend. good to be back in the game. i also discovered that a simple handwritten menu in pencil definitely gets my vote.

erin wrote a great post this week about extracting yourself from what can be the negative vortex of the internet and it pretty much sums up the way i got to feeling at the back end of last year. this year i'm determined to get my head down and concentrate more on what i'm doing and need to be doing rather than flitting around seeing what everyone else is up to.

my other aim for the year is to get properly right into baking bread. none of this lame breadmaker machine shit either. i may even develop an artisan bakery sideline and surprise us all.

p.s. i've still got a handful of thursday interviews left to run so i'll be back up with that again this week. make sure you tune in to catch the grand finale.

  1. Happy new year to you too!

Right with you on the bread making. No sideline mind, just a constant home supply. Finding that making a few loaves at a time and freezing some is most realistic. Kneading so therapeutic. Xx

I never believed in no-knead bread but this is really good and sooo easy.
(I use loaf tins, works fine, too.)

  3. You don't need to knead bread if you may a quick wholemeal loaf (and it freezes too!).

  6. We had a week long digital detox over Christmas - it was just great. No mobiles, no tele and no internet.

I gave away my breadmaker. I hated the damn thing - it took all the soul out of bread making which is surely the point right? It's all about the kneading for me.

  7. If you really want to go the whole hog (I am with you on the artisan bakery) go on Andrew Whitly's Bread matters course (http://www.breadmatters.com/) He even teaches you how to make croissants (they freeze too!). Ooops, sorry this is a flower blog...
